School payroll

School payroll software for Nigerian schools

School payroll software calculates every staff member's monthly pay, deducts statutory items such as PAYE, pension and NHF correctly, and produces payslips and a bank file for disbursement. Safeticha's payroll is built into the same platform that runs attendance, fees and report cards, so staff records never have to be re-entered.

Definition

What school payroll software does

Payroll for a school is not the same as payroll for a company. Teachers start mid-term, part-time staff are paid for the sessions they teach, salary advances are common before Christmas and Easter, and the bursar often doubles as the HR office. School payroll software handles those cases while keeping the statutory maths right.

In Nigeria that maths changed on 1 January 2026, when the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 replaced the old Personal Income Tax Act bands and abolished the Consolidated Relief Allowance. Safeticha ships both rulesets, applies the right one by pay date, and keeps old payslips reproducible under the rules that applied at the time.

What you get

What Safeticha payroll does for a school

Set up once, then each month is compute, review, approve, pay.

01

Nigerian tax, done right

PAYE under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025: 0% on the first ₦800,000 a year, then 15%, 18%, 21%, 23% and 25% bands, with rent relief of 20% of rent paid, capped at ₦500,000. The pre-2026 PITA rules are kept for older periods.

02

Statutory deductions

Pension at 8% employee and 10% employer by default, NHF at 2.5%, NHIS, NSITF and ITF where the school has enrolled, each switchable with its own rate.

03

Salary components

Basic, housing, transport, meal and any allowance you define, fixed or as a percentage of basic, per employee.

04

Pro-rata and adjustments

Mid-month starters and leavers are pro-rated automatically. One-off bonuses, deductions and arrears are added per run with an audit trail.

05

Loans and advances

Staff loans and salary advances with a repayment schedule that deducts itself each month and stops when settled.

06

Payslips, previewed or automatic

PDF payslips with the school logo. Send them automatically when a run is paid, or preview every payslip first and send when you are ready.

07

Bank transfer file

Export a bank-ready CSV of net pay by account number, or disburse by Paystack transfer, then mark the run paid.

08

Approvals and audit

Compute, submit, approve and mark paid as separate steps with separate permissions, and a full history of who changed what.

09

Staff self-service

Every staff member sees their own payslips and year-to-date totals in the Safeticha app.

How it works

Running a monthly pay run

  1. 1

Enrol staff from your existing records

Staff already in Safeticha become payroll employees in one click, with bank details, tax state and salary lines. Bulk import handles the rest.

  2. 2

    Compute the run

Safeticha builds every payslip: gross, each deduction, tax and net, pro-rated for anyone who joined or left during the month.

  3. 3

    Review and approve

The accountant checks the totals and adjustments, submits, and an approver signs it off. Nothing is paid until that happens.

  4. 4

    Pay and release payslips

Export the bank file or pay through Paystack, mark the run paid, and payslips go out by email and in-app, automatically or after your preview.

Pricing

What it costs

Safeticha is priced per school, not per module. Payroll, fees, invoicing, receipts, report cards, attendance, CBT exams and safeguarding are all part of the same school plan, which is tiered by pupil count and starts at ₦37,500 a month.

New schools get a 10-day onboarding period and a further 30 days of use before the first charge, so the first bill lands on day 40. Billing is monthly from the school wallet with no lock-in contract.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Safeticha payroll use the new Nigerian tax rates?

Yes. The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 took effect on 1 January 2026. Safeticha applies its bands (0% up to ₦800,000, then 15%, 18%, 21%, 23% and 25%) and its rent relief for 2026 pay periods, and the older PITA bands with the Consolidated Relief Allowance for periods before that.

Can we pay part-time teachers by sessions taught?

Yes. A part-time employment type with a fixed or variable basic is supported, and one-off adjustments cover extra sessions in a given month.

Can payslips be checked before they go to staff?

Yes. Payslip delivery can be set to manual. The run page then shows every payslip for preview, and you send them to staff when you are satisfied. In automatic mode they go out as soon as the run is marked paid or approved, whichever you choose.

Do we have to use Paystack to pay salaries?

No. Most schools export the bank transfer CSV and upload it to their bank. Paystack transfers are an option for schools that prefer it.

Is payroll an extra cost?

No. Payroll is part of every Safeticha school plan, which starts at ₦37,500 a month and is tiered by pupil count.
